Review- Stepbrothers

I’ve been waiting to see this movie for quite a while.  I just never thought it was BIG SCREEN material and waited for DVD.  Although I’m glad I made that decision, don’t get me wrong, the movie had me cracking up.  It is seriously funny.  Still it’s better on DVD for me.  John C. Reilly is really branching further out into his comedy.  I’ve always thought he was a pretty good actor but ever since the movie ,‘Never Been Kissed’, with Drew Barrymore, I’ve just gotten more into his work.

And Will, the comedian /actor who loves to take off his shirt [why I don’t know b/c it’s not like he has fit abs] has always been a staple guy [in my opinion] from Saturday Night Live.  When I go see his movies I expect them to be like Ben Stiller/ Adam Sandler types. Full of humor [some raunchy] — underlying tones of  social topics and taboo subjects but still a good laugh.

About the Movie:
Brennan Huff and Dale Doback [Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly] are 40 something men still living at home. Their parents meet during a lecture and hit it off, fast forward they get married which brings the men under one roof.  That’s when the fun starts, the competition for ‘prince of the castle’ and adjusting to a life with new family members.  The men are slackers who have pinched off their parents far too long and now this ‘union’ has forced them to take stock of their lives and what action to take as adults.

Eventually a mutual rival [Brennan’s older brother] comes to town and unifies the men and they learn they have more in common than they thought, namely music.

What I liked about the movie:
Will is always funny to watch.  Good slap stick humor, doesn’t slow down. Not to serious but not too stupid goofy either.

What I didn’t like:
I got what I expected and was cool with it. They stick to the formula which is good and not so good.  I think the only downside for me was Kathryn Huff’s character. It just annoyed me. I liked her better on ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 days’.

My rating:   At the theaters this would be a Hot Dog and a Soda rating. But on DVD [for the type of movie it is] it borders between a 2.5 and 3 star rating.   I like to laugh since I can tend to be on the serious side. Therefore anything that Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler or Will Ferrell come out with, chances are I’ll eventually
see it if not at the theaters then on DVD. So I’d definitely check it out on DVD.
